Berit's mission is twofold: to offer Christian Counselling that is biblical and to train and equip others to counsel. All our counselling and training is rooted in biblical truth consequently the topics of repentance, forgiveness, sin, and grace are common place in Berit.
The impact of the Bible:
If we approach the Bible as merely a handbook, a set of instructions, or an account of God's dealings in the past we will miss out on its true significance. According to Hebrews 4:12, Romans 15:4-7, and 2 Timothy 3:16-17 the word of God can identify the motives behind our thoughts and behaviours, is able to encourage us and give us hope, and will make us complete and capable of living a healthy life.
For these reasons, and many others, Berit believes that the Bible speaks to all the problems that we face today.
More than a book - relationship with God is offered:
However, more than reading the Bible and applying the truths found in it is necessary. John 17:3 describes eternal life as knowing God, through Jesus. Amazingly such knowledge, or relationship, brings the grace and peace that we so long for to our lives (2 Peter 1:2). God has promised this relationship to everyone who desires it and chooses to no longer hold our sins against us (Jeremiah 31:34).
Counsellors can help with the help they have already received themselves:
Sadly we very often associate God with punishment or severity. However, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 describes God as one who comforts. The word used for comfort in Koine Greek is paraklesis which means to lift another's spirits, comfort, consolation. Biblical Counsellors are people who know the comfort of God and so can offer this same comfort to others.
